Aksum (Abyssinia)أكسوم

Capital of the Christian kingdom whose Najashi sheltered the first Muslim refugees.

Aksum was famed for its tall stone obelisks and trade with Rome and India. Its ruler, the Najashi, sheltered the first Muslim refugees in 615 and refused Quraysh's demand to hand them back after hearing Surah Maryam. When he died, the Prophet ﷺ prayed the funeral prayer for him in Madinah.
