Iran's capital, beside the ruins of Rayy, city of the two al-Razis.

Ancient Rayy, just south, was a great Abbasid city and home of the physician Abu Bakr al-Razi and the theologian Fakhr al-Din al-Razi; the Mongols ruined it. Tehran became the Qajar capital in 1796 and the capital of modern Iran.
