CaveAlso Hira, Jabal al-Nur, the Mountain of Light
Cave of Hiraغار حراء
A small cave on the Mountain of Light where the first words of the Quran came down.
A narrow cave near the top of Jabal al-Nur, a few kilometres from the Kaaba. Before prophethood, Muhammad ﷺ used to retreat here for nights of worship. In 610 Jibril came to him here with the first revelation: 'Recite in the name of your Lord who created' (96:1).
