The 1212 battle Arab writers called al-Iqab, which broke Almohad power in Spain.
The Christian kings of Spain, united under a crusade, defeated the Almohad caliph Muhammad al-Nasir here in 1212. Within forty years Cordoba and Seville had fallen, and only Granada remained Muslim.
