The Najd region where Musaylimah's rebellion was crushed in 632, at a great cost of reciters.
Musaylimah claimed prophethood here and gathered a large army. In 632 Khalid ibn al-Walid defeated him at Aqraba, in the 'garden of death'. So many Quran memorisers fell that Umar urged Abu Bakr to collect the Quran into one book.
