Koumbi Salehكومبي صالح

Probable capital of ancient Ghana, with a Muslim town of twelve mosques.

The Andalusi geographer al-Bakri wrote in 1068 that Ghana's capital had two towns: the king's town and a Muslim merchants' town with twelve mosques, imams and scholars. The ruins of Koumbi Saleh in Mauritania are thought to be that city.
