Palmyra (Tadmur)تدمر

A caravan city of the Syrian desert whose queen Zenobia defied Rome.

Its queen Zenobia ruled from Egypt to Anatolia until Rome captured her in 272. Khalid ibn al-Walid passed it on his desert march to Syria in 634, and it came to terms. Arab poets credited its colossal ruins to the jinn who built for Sulayman.
