Rabatالرباط

Named after a frontier fort of warrior-ascetics; Morocco's capital today.

Its name comes from 'ribat', a fortified post for men who guarded the frontier and worshipped. The Almohad caliph Ya'qub al-Mansur planned a vast mosque here in the 1190s; its unfinished Hassan Tower still stands. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation was founded here in 1969.
