Toledoطليطلة

The old Visigothic capital, whose fall in 1085 opened a translation bridge from Arabic to Latin.

Tariq ibn Ziyad took Toledo in 711. Its fall to Alfonso VI of Castile in 1085 shocked al-Andalus and brought the Almoravids over from Morocco. Under Christian rule, translators in Toledo turned Arabic works of al-Khwarizmi, Ibn Sina and Ibn Rushd into Latin for Europe.
