A temple city in Lebanon whose name carries the god Ba'l that Ilyas preached against.
Ilyas asked his people: 'Do you call upon Ba'l and leave the best of creators?' (37:125). Many commentators link his mission to this city of the Bekaa valley, whose name joins Ba'l. Its giant Roman temples, later a fortress, amazed the Muslim geographers.
