A fortified oasis north of Madinah, opened in 628 under the banner given to Ali.
An oasis of forts and palm groves held by Jewish tribes, some of whom had been exiled from Madinah. In 628 the Muslims took its forts one by one; the Prophet ﷺ gave the banner to 'a man who loves Allah and His Messenger', and it was Ali. The people stayed to farm the land for half the harvest.
