Kanem (Njimi)كانم
The kingdom near Lake Chad whose rulers accepted Islam around 1085.
Kanem's king Hume became Muslim around 1085, and his son made the Hajj. Later rulers moved west to Bornu, and the Kanem-Bornu empire lasted for centuries, trading across the Sahara with Libya and Egypt.
