Calicutكاليكوت
A spice port on India's Malabar coast where Vasco da Gama landed in 1498.
Arab and Indian Muslim merchants had traded at Calicut for centuries. Vasco da Gama's arrival in 1498 began a Portuguese sea war on Muslim shipping, recorded by the local scholar Zayn al-Din al-Ma'bari in his Tuhfat al-Mujahidin.
