al-Masjid al-Aqsaالمسجد الأقصى
The Farthest Mosque, second house of worship on earth and third holiest place in Islam.
The Prophet ﷺ said it was set on earth forty years after the Sacred Mosque. On the Night Journey he led the prophets in prayer here before rising through the heavens. Umar cleared the site in 637; Abd al-Malik raised the Dome of the Rock in 691, and the congregational mosque followed under al-Walid.
