The mud-brick town where the first Saudi state was born in 1744.
In 1744 the preacher Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab and the local ruler Muhammad ibn Saud made a pact here that founded the first Saudi state. An Ottoman-Egyptian army destroyed it in 1818.
